Dallas— Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Dallas Stars in double overtime 3-2 in game one of the Western Conference Finals, Thursday night at the American Airlines Center.

McDavid scored 32 seconds into the second overtime to win 3-2. This after previously being robbed by Stars goalie Jake Oettinger in the first overtime with a point blank chance.

The Oilers were led by both McDavid and Zach Hyman with a goal and an assist each. Leon Draisaitl added a goal, and Goaltender Stuart Skinner made 31 saves for the win.

For the Stars Tyler Seguin with two goals, Jamie Benn an assist, and Jake Oettinger made 35 saves.

After a scoreless first period Draisaitl struck first for the Oilers 58 seconds into the second period to make it 1-0.

The Oilers would benefit off consecutive bounces to score the opening goal.

McDavid would lose possession of a centering pass behind the goal. Fortunately for the Oilers defenseman Brett Kulak would step up into the play and attempt a slap shot from the left high slot.

The shot was blocked by Stars defenseman Esa Lindell which led to a perfect bounce to Draisaitl for the short side snipe for the first goal of the series.

Hyman gave the Oilers a 2-0 lead at 4:17 of the second period with a contested shot between two Dallas defenders. The goal for Hyman is his 12th goal this postseason which leads all skaters.

Moments before the Stars would have their first great offensive chance with Benn making a pass directly behind the goal to a wide open Lindell in the center slot. Skinner would make the save which sent the Oilers down the ice with McDavid and Hyman.

Stars defensemen Chris Tanev would breakup a cross ice pass from McDavid only for Hyman to clean up the loose change. Both Stars defenseman Lindell and Tanev would prove to be too much for Hyman as he was able to put it past Oettinger.

Seguin scored a contested close range goal for the Stars to make it 2-1 at 6:11 of the second period.

The Stars would take advantage of a poor turnover by the Oilers in their own zone. Kulak would turn it over to Benn who was then stopped by Skinner.

The puck would find Seguin on the left side crease who took a few swipes at the puck before it went in, while it was between Oilers defenseman Kulak.

The Stars would tie it off a tip pass from Evgenii Dadonov in to a wide open Seguin slap shot to tie it at 2-2 with 3:23 remaining in the third period.

During the first overtime there was plenty of action on both sides.

The Stars would go on a power play 17 seconds in when McDavid got Stars forward Matt Duchene with a high stick. After review and the leakage from Duchene’s face it was assessed a double minor.

During the power play the Stars would hit two posts and ultimately fail to score. The Stars would go 0-5 on the power play for the game.

The best chance for the Oilers came with 5:21 left in the first overtime. Hyman would take a wrist shot from the right circle which left McDavid all alone in front with the rebound. The shot was stopped on the doorstep by Oettinger with a stick save.
