The Professional Women Hockey Leagues inaugural season has crowned their first champion. Minnesota defeated Boston 3-0 Wednesday night at a sold out Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Minnesota goalie Nicole Hensley would be the star of the game with 17 saves for her second shutout of the series. Minnesota scoring were led by Michela Cava with a goal and an assist as well as three assists from defensemen Melissa Channel.
Boston goalie Aerin Frankel made 41 saves in the 3-0 loss. Boston captain Hilary Knight led the team with five shots. Boston would be outshot my Minnesota 44-17.
After a scoreless first period Minnesota would get a cross crease pass from Sydney Brodt to Liz Schepers for the left side tap in to make it 1-0 at 6:14 of the second period.
Cava gave Minnesota a 2-0 lead at 8:08 of the third period. Cava would take the puck from the left side and score on a wrap around to the right.
Minnesota added an empty net goal by Kendell Coyne Schofield to make it 3-0 at 17:54 of the third period.
Minnesota forward Taylor Heise wins the inaugural Ilana Kloss Playoff MVP Award.
