Edmonton, AB —Connor McDavid arguably the games best player is headed to his first Stanley Cup Final.

The Edmonton Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 in Game 6, Sunday night at Roger’s Arena in Edmonton, Alberta. The Oilers would take the series against the Stars four games to two.

Leading the Oilers was McDavid with a goal and an assist and Zach Hyman with a goal. In net for the Oilers was Stuart Skinner with 34 saves.

The Stars were led by Mason Marchment with a goal and Tyler Seguin with an assist.

McDavid scored a wikid backhand from the inside slot after a toe drag around two Stars defensemen for the Oilers to make it 1-0 at 4:17 of the first period.

The goal would come on the power play as would the second from Hyman to make it 2-0 at 15:42 of the first period. McDavid found Hyman skating freely through the slot after entering the zone who would then shoot high stick side to beat Stars goalie Jake Oettinger for the first period lead.

The Stars would get one back late in the third period by Marchment at 9:18 to cut it to a 2-1 Oilers lead.

The Stars would outshoot the Oilers 35-10,

After the game McDavid spoke with the NHL TNT crew.

“It was a long night, long game. Not the prettiest of games, but I’ve never heard the building that loud before.” McDavid said. “It was special to be a part of, I’ve played a lot of games in this building, a lot of games in front of these fans so when the clock hit zero I definitely felt it.”

Of course TNT panelist Henrik Lundqvist, a Hall of Fame goaltender, would ask one of the greatest offensive players of the last decade about the Oilers goaltender in Skinner. McDavid was quick to praise his goalie for “stealing” one tonight.

“I can’t say enough good things about him. I think he learned a lot from last years playoffs.” McDavid went on the say. “A lot of people doubt him..he’s an elite goaltender. Tonight he absolutely stole one for us.”

The Oilers will now face the Florida Panthers for the Stanley Cup. The series will start this Saturday in Florida at Amerant Bank Arena at 8 p.m. est.

The Panthers won the season series 2-0.
